It was 1989 when the founder of Optimal Performance, Jane Sleeth was working as the Manager of the Rehabilitation Department of a large Toronto Hospital.  When reviewing injury statistics of the clinic, Jane noted an increasing number of musculoskeletal injuries, finger tips amputations and tendon lacerations. 

Jane and her department collected more statistics to find out two important elements:  (1) It generally took 10 weeks to 6 months with many patients returning for more treatment after. (2) Rehabilitation process seemed to take longer whenever the employers did not offer the workers a means to return to the workplace after injury.

In 1989, few people knew about ergonomics and work injury prevention or the management of disabilities in the workplace.
