Occupational Health and Safety Legislation Ordered for Third Reading in Ontario

On May 4, 2011, Bill 160, the Occupational Health and Safety Statute Law Amendment Act, 2011, was reported with amendments by the Standing Committee on Social Policy and ordered for Third Reading.
As previously reported by our team at OPC, the proposed Bill 160 amendments are intended to respond to the recommendations provided by the Expert Panel (Dean Panel) on Occupational Health and Safety. These recommendations will significantly amend the Occupational Health and Safety Act including a major impact on the prevention of Musculoskeletal Injuries (MSI’s). This timing will interestingly coincide with the release of the new Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Ergonomic Standards which the Ministry of Labour for Ontario uses as one of its standards in ergonomic program and design.
At OPC we suggest you consult the Bill for specific coming into force information. Our consulting team can also walk you thru the Bill and explain how it will impact your current and future programs in the workplace.
